Workshop 9th September
09 September 2023
During August and the beginning of September, we held three Zoom calls. From the outset, a clear relationship was established within the group.
The atmosphere was professional, with everyone feeling confident in sharing thoughts and creative ideas. The date for the first workshop was set for September 9th, and there was a palpable sense of anticipation as the groups were set to meet in person for the first time.
On the morning of September 9th, the Derry musicians departed Derry at 9pm, traveling by bus to Ulster University. They arrived at Ulster University ready for the all-day workshop.
The workshop began with introductions, but it quickly transitioned to animated discussions about the project. With an influx of ideas, it was decided to revisit the original Zoom time to provide a focal point for the team. This led to an extended conversation about how the revamped Zoom Time would look. The consensus was to retain the visually darker elements of the original Zoom Time, but the new work would be infused with more color, and the recordings would be crisper.
Musicians, facilitators, and the tech team further deliberated on where the new 'pieces' would fit into the new work. Over the subsequent weeks, this topic remained at the forefront of discussions, as did the potential renaming of Zoom Time.
The workshop concluded with a pledge: the two groups, Acoustronic and Performance without Barriers, would rehearse independently and reconvene on 30 September.
